AHA Heartsaver
Heartsaver Certification
The American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver courses are designed to prepare individuals from various backgrounds to handle emergency situations involving cardiac arrest and choking incidents. These courses are tailored for anyone with little to no medical training who needs a course completion card for a job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or who wants to prepare for an emergency in any setting.
Upon successful Heartsaver course completion, participants receive an AHA Provider card that is valid for two years. This card is often required for employment in certain fields, such as education, child care, and some healthcare positions.
There are three different American Heart Association Heartsaver Certification courses; Heartsaver First-Aid by itself, Heartsaver CPR/AED by itself, and the combined Heartsaver First-Aid CPR/AED.
The Heartsaver curriculum includes
Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED
Teaches skills to effectively respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. It includes CPR, AED use, and relief of choking in adults, children, and infants.
Heartsaver CPR/AED

Heartsaver First-Aid
